Construction colors
In this article, we are going to introduce you to different types of building colors:
Most of us seek to beautify our living environment, and an important part of this beauty is created through colors. Studies show that each color has unique characteristics in its particles that affect the human psyche unconsciously. Colors create different effects in different environments. For example, the appropriate use of colors for the facade of a building makes the city look more beautiful, in the workplace it increases work efficiency, in kindergartens it creates attraction for children, and so on. For a long time, people have been using building colors for the purpose of beauty, protection, creating variety and difference, as well as increasing the value of buildings.
Commonly used building paints are divided into three categories:
Oil paints
Plastic colors
Acrylic paints
-
Oil paints
The first group of construction paints introduced here are oil paints based on alkyd resin. Based on quality, these paints are divided into two types of grade 1 oil paint and undercoating (in the market called lining), which differ in the amount of surface they cover. For example, if one kilogram of grade 1 oil paint covers about eight square meters, the same amount of primer will cover about four to five square meters. And of course, the durability and adhesion of grade 1 oil paint is higher than paint. It is a lining.
Another difference is that grade 1 oil paints have matte, semi-glossy and glossy types, but primer colors only have two types of matte and semi-glossy.
(It means matte, semi-glossy and glossy in the amount of light reflection from the surface covered by them, and this definition is different from the color hue (green, red, etc.) and the darkness and lightness of the colors.)
The solvent of oil paints is an oil thinner, that’s why its drying time is long, at twenty degrees Celsius, surface drying takes about five hours and deep drying takes about eighteen hours. As a result, when several layers of painting are required, the time to complete the painting will be long.
If you use oil paints in the interior, the unpleasant smell of thinner will be your guest for several days.
Also, due to the chemicals used in oil paints, if these colors are used to paint the walls and ceilings, it creates problems for the paint operator and the residents. For this reason, it is not recommended to use oil paints in interior spaces. However, due to the high resistance and glaze that these colors create, it is recommended for painting external metal, plaster, cement and wooden surfaces.
Rollers, brushes and pistols can be used to paint surfaces with oil paints.
Oil paints are highly washable.
-
Plastic colors
Another group of construction paints are plastic paints based on polyvinyl acetate copolymers. These colors are classified into two types, full plastic and half plastic, based on quality. Plastic colors are opaque in light reflection.
The solvent of plastic paints is water, that’s why it has a high drying speed and provides the possibility of painting as quickly as possible.
All-plastic paints are less washable than oil-based paints, which means that small stains and surface contamination of all-plastic paints can be cleaned gently with a damp cloth, while semi-plastic paints, which are of lower quality than the full type, Plastics are not washable.
It is recommended to use plastic paints due to their cost-effectiveness for covering the lower surfaces of plaster, cement, interior surfaces and painting ceilings that cannot be accessed and polluted.
Rollers, brushes, and pistols can be used to paint surfaces with plastic colors.

Acrylic paints
The third group of construction paints are acrylic paints, which are the new generation of water-soluble paints. These colors are made on the basis of acrylic resins and are classified in a specialized way for use in indoor and outdoor spaces.
Like oil paints, acrylic paints can be fully washed and create a resistant and suitable coating. One of the advantages of acrylic paints is that they are free from harmful chemicals and that they are water soluble. In such a way that for painting places where compliance with hygiene principles is important, such as dining halls, kindergartens, hospitals, etc., the use of acrylic paints for interior spaces is the best option.
Also, acrylic paints are stable against various factors such as sunlight, rain and dust, and because they are easier to use than oil paints, they are recommended for use on external surfaces.
Rollers, brushes and pistols can be used to paint surfaces with acrylic paints.
Based on light reflection, it has matte, semi-glossy and glossy types.
As mentioned, the solvent of acrylic paints is water and is environmentally friendly.
Nowadays, in developed countries, acrylic paints are widely used in indoor and outdoor spaces due to the benefits of not having harmful chemicals, washable, easy to use, creating a resistant layer, high drying speed, and not creating an unpleasant smell.
